1 Peter 3:8-17

1 Peter 3:8 ¶  Finally, all of you, live in harmony with one another; be sympathetic, love as brothers, be compassionate and humble. 9  Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult, but with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing. 10  For, "Whoever would love life and see good days must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from deceitful speech. 11  He must turn from evil and do good; he must seek peace and pursue it.

How God works behind the scenes.

The New Birth
I sat with a man and his wife as they described the spiritual journey of their lives. She had been born again years earlier and had a desire to continue with her development in the things of God. She had hit a plateau and knew that her growth toward Jesus’ character had stalled. I was there to talk to her about being baptized. Her husband joined us in the living room.

What God is teaching me about His control.

I started thinking recently about the idea behind the book of Malachi. While I've been preaching from there, I've emphasized the concept that this was God's last word to His people before a long period of silence from heaven.

His message then, was to hold Israel to a spiritual perspective until the coming of the Messiah. When I then see how the Gospel writers characterized the religious leaders of Jesus' day I have to wonder if Malachi's oracle had the effect intended. It doesn't seem to have kept Israel tracking closely with God.
